A mobile app for parent/guardians and childcare providers geared towards keeping track of care and communication for children ranging from 0-6 years old. It’s main features involve an itemized log of daily activities, event calendar, messaging system and photo gallery.

Interview questions helped to learn more about the impact parents/guardians face when they cannot be with their child.

What are some thoughts or feelings that come to mind when you think about leaving your child with someone else?

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

The biggest obstacle I faced was how to arrange the items which will be logged. It is a lot of information so creating a clear and cohesive design was difficult. User flows were an essential part for how to organize loggable items. I also created created 3 design options for user feedback:

There are so many childcare apps out there. The competitive analysis, affinity map, user personas, and feature priority list were crucial to determine how could I make this produce different while also meeting the needs of users.

Remove descriptions from prototype or make them mandatory as optional is too confusing, did not notice messages notification color; Participant 3 had the most difficulty and was also the oldest participant (accessibility!).

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

I faced challenges with selecting design elements that will be most efficient for users of all ages. With the amount of features and information this app would entail, it was difficult to prioritize all elements and also determine which would be most important for user testing and to be included in my prototype. I also spent forever picking out a color palette!

By completing this project, I learned how to structure a mobile app and incorporate my research to create functional UI design. I sharpened my skills on Figma, especially with my component library and using auto layout.

To improve this project, I would like to build out more features on it so the prototype could be more interactive, such as the “calendar” page.

I am most proud of staying patient and continuing to receive feedback resulting in more iterations and overall, a more polished product🙂

After completing user testing and making several iterations, I began preparing LMT for hand-off and created the UI Kit.
